    Año tras año el alumnado que cursa la Educación Secundaria Obligatoria (ESO en adelante) y Bachillerato debe realizar una elección de la asignatura optativa que cursará el año escolar siguiente. en nuestro sistema educativo existe gran variedad de optativas, estas pueden cambiar de un centro a otro. Entre las más comunes para el segundo curso de la ESO se encuentran informática, francés, iniciativa empresarial y taller de refuerzo. el objetivo de este trabajo es estudiar si la optatividad influye en el desempeño de otras asignaturas que el alumnado está cursando, además de ver si mejoran sus habilidades de abstracción y vocabulario dependiendo de la elección de optatividad realizada. El estudio mostró que la elección de la optatividad influye en el desempeño del alumnado respecto a otras materias. Además, se vio que no hubo diferencias en el desarrollo del pensamiento abstracto, así como el desempeño verbal del alumno influenciado por la libre elección de asignatura optativa.

    Everyear, students who attend Compulsory Secondary Education and Baccalaureate must make a choice of the optional subject they will take the following year. In our educational system there is a great variety of optional subjects that can vary from one center to another, among the most common for the second year of ESO are computer Science, French, entrepreneurship and reinforcement Workshop. The objective of this work is to study if the chosen option is associated with the performance on other subjects, and with an improvement of their capacity of abstraction and vocabulary skills. The study showed that the choice of the optional subject influences the performance of the students with respect to other subjects, it was also seen that there were no differences in the development of abstract thought, as well as the verbal performance of the student influenced by the free choice of the optional subject.
