Resumen de La grammaticalisation de l’adverbe plutôt et l’évolution du système grammatical

This paper presents a study of the evolution of the word plutôt. It reflects on the transition from time sense attested since the twelfth century and even before to the preferential sense then to the amending sense employed much later. These new signified appear in linguistic contexts that allow a new interpretation of the structure plus tost. Moreover, this case of grammaticalization is presented as being in relation to other changes that occur in parallel in the micro-system of adversative expressions. These changes have also an impact on the grammatical system.

Cet article présente une étude de l’évolution de l’adverbe plutôt. Il propose une réflexion sur le passage du sens temporel, attesté dès le XIIe siècle et même avant, au sens préférentiel puis rectificatif employés bien plus tard. Ces nouveaux signifiés apparaissent dans des contextes linguistiques qui permettent une nouvelle interprétation de la structure plus tost. Par ailleurs, ce cas de grammaticalisation est présenté comme étant en rapport avec d’autres changements qui se produisent en parallèle dans le micro-système des expressions adversatives. Ces changements ont aussi un impact sur le système grammatical.
