    En el presente artículo se revisan los imaginarios urbanos y las representaciones sociales sobre el Cementerio Central de la ciudad de Sincelejo, en el marco de una investigación histórica que busca entender la construcción de los sentidos sociales de esta estructura urbana en el umbral del siglo XX. El estudio encuadra dentro del enfoque de la historia cultural y se utilizan, las representaciones sociales y una mirada donde la cultura se entiende como escenario de relaciones antagónicas de poder y territorialidad. Los resultados se organizaron a partir de tres líneas: en primer lugar, la ubicación del contexto de la ciudad de Sincelejo en el siglo XIX, en segundo, la representación de la idea de progreso en Sincelejo y en tercer lugar las transformaciones físicas ocurridas en este periodo de tiempo.

    This article reviews the urban imaginaries and social representations about the Central Cemetery of Sincelejo City, within the framework of a historical research that seeks to understand the construction of the social meanings of this urban structure in the threshold of the twentieth century. The study is framed within the approach of cultural history and uses social representations and a view where culture is understood as a scenery of conflicting relations of power and territoriality. The results were classified along three lines: first, the location of the context of the city of Sincelejo in the 19th century; second, the representation of the idea of progress in Sincelejo; and third, the physical transformations that occurred in this period of time.
