  • For several decades, historians analysed changes occurring in our society as a consequence of politics, economics, science, medicine and cultural heritages neglecting some small and hostile organisms that actually played a relevant role in the evolution of modern Western societies: vermin.

    The term vermin actually includes many different animals that are parasites of our species and range from insects and ticks (that are vectors of very impor- tant human diseases, such as malaria, yellow fever and Lyme disease) to species that live in our bodies (or on our skin, hairs, clothes or houses), such as mites, fleas, louses, and bedbugs.
