Yoná da Silva Dalonso, Elaine Scalabrini, Jani Floriano, Fernanda Dalonso, Marcelo Leandro Borba

  • Since March 2020, the world has been impacted by SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19. The effects of this pandemic closed business and segments including special tourism activities. This chapter aims to present the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism economy in the city of Joinville (Santa Catarina), especially in the destination events segment, based on an empirical research. The results evidence that tourism activities were strongly impacted by loss of revenue and reduction in revenue and staff. It concludes with the need for a contribution of fiscal and financial support measures as well as the need for the adoption of biosafety protocols and promotion and marketing strategies with a view to recovery and resumption of tourist activity at the destination. Such measures will enable greater social inclusion for micro and small entrepreneurs affected by the pandemic.
