    El motivo del presente artículo es realizar una revisión del estado actual que el procedimiento terapéutico del tratamiento con sobredentaduras tiene en el campo de la prostodoncia. Se analizan las ventajas e inconvenientes del uso de esta modalidad de tratamiento, los criterios a tener en cuenta a la hora de seleccionar los dientes pilares, las consideraciones biomecánicas y la clasificación de los medios de retención, así como las normas que rigen la correcta elección de los mencionados sistemas de anclaje.

    The motive of the present aricle is to accomplish a revision to the current state, that the therapeutic procedure of the treatment with overdentadures has in the field of the prosthodontics. They are analyzed the advantages and inconvenient of the use of this treatment modality, the criteria that one must take into account to the hour of selecting the pilar teeth, biomechanics considerations and the classification of the means of retention as well as the procedures that govern the correct election of the mentioned anchorage systems.
