The independence of Spanish America did not constitute an anticolonial movement, but formed part of the political revolution within the Spanish world and the dissolution of the Spanish Monarchy. In the wake of the French invasion of the Iberian Peninsula in 1808, some subjects of the Spanish Monarchy sought to transform it into a modern nation state that included both Europe and America by introducing one of the most radical constitutions of the nineteenth century. However, civil war erupted in America between those who supported the new constitutional system and those who insisted not only on home rule, but also on independence. Ultimately, the struggle resulted in the dissolution of the Spanish Monarchy and the creation of new nations.

L’indépendance de l’Amérique espagnole ne constitua pas un mouvement anticolonial, mais contribua au déclanchement de la révolution politique dans le monde espagnol et à la dissolution de la monarchie espagnole. Au début de l’invasion française de la péninsule ibérique en 1808, certains agents de la monarchie espagnole tentèrent de créer un État moderne, incluant l’Europe et l’Amérique et introduisant l’une des constituions les plus radicales du XIXe siècle. Cependant, une guerre civile surgit en Amérique, opposant ceux qui appuyaient le nouveau système constitutionnel et ceux qui prônaient la création d’un système distinct et indépendant. La lutte se conclut para la dissolution de la Monarchie espagnole et la création de nouvelles nations.

A independência da América Espanhola não constituiu um movimento anticolonial, mas provocou parte da revolução política dentro do mundo espanhol e a dissolução da monarquia espanhola. No início da invasão francesa da Península Ibérica em 1808, alguns agentes da monarquia espanhola tentaram transformá-la num Estado moderno que incluísse a Europa e a América, introduzindo uma das constituições mais radicais do século XIX. No entanto, uma guerra civil surgiu na América entre os que apoiavam o novo sistema constitucional e aqueles que insistiam num sistema próprio e independente. A luta resultou na dissolução da Monarquia espanhola e na criação de novas nações.
