    Este artículo intenta demostrar la utilidad de acudir al folclore para contribuir al estudio de los libros de caballerías castellanos, aunque éstos no sean propiamente literatura folclórica y no en todos los episodios el folclore tenga igual presencia. Por ello se analiza la aventura de Palmerín en la Montaña Artifaria (Palmerín de Olivia, caps. XV-XVIII) usando el índice de motivos folclóricos de S. Thompson. En este sentido el motivo V70.1.1. acaba convertido en núcleo estructurante de la narración, y permite entablar relaciones con la cultura celta, difundida en la Península a la par de la narrativa artúrica, sin que la deuda haya pasado previamente por Montalvo. En último término en este episodio se pueden encontrar muchas claves para explicar otras secuencias similares de los dos primeros libros del ciclo de los palmerines.

    This article attempts to demonstrate the usefulness of resorting to Folklore to study the Castilian Chivalry Books, although these books are not strictly Folk Literature and have not all the episodes have equal Folklore presence. Therefore this article discusses the Palmerín’s adventure in Mountain Artifaria (Palmerín de Olivia, chaps. XV-XVIII) using the S. Thompson’s Motifs-Index. In this sense motif V70.1.1. just becomes the structuring core of the narration, and allows establishing relations with the Celtic culture, widespread in the Peninsula together with the Arthurian Literature, Montalvo didn’t have any influence on this. Ultimately in this episode many key questions can be found to explain many other key sequences similar to the first two books in the Palmerines Cycle.
