Dentro de la reflexión sobre el pensamiento literario español del siglo XX, el estudio de las Historias literarias españolas ocupa un lugar muy relevante. En este caso proponemos el análisis de la importante Historia de la literatura española de Ángel Valbuena Prat (publicada por primera vez en 1937), concretamente, el examen de su planteamiento teórico-metodológico. Este combina una apuesta por la autonomía de la literatura, frente a la consuetudinaria supeditación de esta a la historia política de otros muchos manuales de la época, y su enriquecimiento con modernos tanteos comparatistas. Ambos procedimientos estructuran la Historia de la literatura española de Ángel Valbuena Prat y la dotan de gran originalidad y valor en el marco de la Historiografía literaria española.

Inside the reflection about Spanish literary thought in the twentieth century, the analysis of the Spanish Literary Histories plays a very important role. For this reason, we suggest the analysis of the important Historia de la literatura española of Ángel Valbuena Prat (1937, first edition), particularly, the exam of her theoretical-methodological approach. This combines the autonomy of the literature, opposite the usual conditioning of this to the politic history of the other manuals, and his improving with modern comparative practices. Both methods structure the Historia de la literatura española of Ángel Valbuena Prat and contribute to her originality and value in the Spanish literary historiography.
