  En Soledades (1903), Antonio Machado se propone encontrar un nuevo sendero de reflexión poética que armonizase la recreación de los clásicos y la sencillez lírica. Esta fórmula debía ofrecer, de hecho, un planteamiento alternativo al helenismo practicado por los poetas parnasianos. Machado, en consecuencia, hará perfectamente compatibles la recreación mitológica y la perspectiva simbólica, en tanto que evoca una materia mítica sugerida, sin referentes explícitos. Bajo este pórtico inicial, se rememoran los personajes, pero son presentados en virtud de sutiles alusiones a sus atributos o a la aretalogía. Su tratamiento viene a preludiar, sea como fuere, notorias células temáticas de su poesía posterior. Por tanto, en Soledades de 1903, Machado brinda, en fin, un maduro proyecto literario, de naturaleza simbólico-romántica y clásica, que abrirá un fértil y granado espacio para la poesía española modernista.

  In Soledades (1903), Antonio Machado sets out to find a new footpath of poetic reflection that harmonize the lyrical simplicity and recreation classic. This formula had to offer, in fact, an alternative exposition to the hellenic style practiced by the poets bound to the Parnasianismo. Machado, consequently, will perfectly harmonize the mythological recreation and the symbolic perspective, whereas it evokes a suggested mythical matter, without referring explicit. Under this initial porch, the personages are recalled, but they are presented by virtue of subtle references to its attributes or to the aretalogy. Its treatment comes to announce, be that as it may, well-known thematic cells of its later poetry. Therefore, in Soledades of 1903, Machado offers, in short, a mature literary project, of symbolic-romantic and classic nature, that will open a fertile and distinguished space for the modernist Spanish poetry.
