El turismo cultural está viviendo un rápido crecimiento. Las ciudades históricas, como su principal recurso,tienen que adaptarse y lanzar nuevas propuestas queaporten una visión enriquecedora de la villa sin caeren los tópicos y el estereotipo.La historia cultural de Madrid y su relación con laliteratura escrita en y sobre Madrid ofrece ampliasposibilidades al turismo urbano. Esta ciudad puede serconsiderada como el paisaje urbano donde las vidas yobras de un gran número de escritores se desarrollaron. Muchos de ellos cuentan con fama universal.A modo de ejemplo, se propone un itinerario turístico centrado en un autor cuya vida y obras compartieron un mismo escenario: la ciudad de Madrid. Setrata de Benito Pérez Galdós, cuyo estilo realista nosha permitido conocer el modo de vida de los miles depersonajes anónimos que poblaron la ciudad hace másde un siglo.Las posibilidades de desarrollar itinerarios que permitan acercarse a la vida y obra de los grandes de la literatura en Madrid son infinitas a pesar de encontrarseaún poco explotadas. Dada la conexión de la literaturacon otros ámbitos, el desarrollo y difusión de itinerarios puede ir acompañado de otras acciones, comodegustaciones gastronómicas o representaciones teatrales, que fomenten su atractivo turístico.

Cultural tourism is constantly growing and historicalcities have become its main resource. These cities haveto adapt themselves to the increasing tourism and create new proposals to offer an enriching view of the city.The cultural history of Madrid and its relation to theliterature written in and on Madrid through the yearsoffers vast possibilities to urban tourism. This city maybe considered as the urban landscape where the livesand writings of a great number of writers were developed. Many of them are famous worldwide.As an example we propose an itinerary focused in anauthor whose works and life share the same scenery:the city of Madrid. It is Benito Pérez Galdós, thanks tohis realistic way of writing we are able today to knowthe way of life of the thousands anonymous peoplewho lived in the city one century ago. The possibilities of developing touristic itineraries focused on the writings and lives of the most reknownwriters are innumerable, although they are not exploited yet. Given the connection between the literature and other cultural fields, the development andwidespread of itineraries may be carried out with other activities, like tastings or performances to improvetheir touristic attraction.
