Así como el primer Vals Mephisto, se cree que el segundo (publicado en 1881) también tiene el mismo programa. Esto genera un poco de controversia, ya que, si nos ceñimos exclusivamente a las notas que ha dejado Franz Liszt (1811-1886) en cuanto a referencias extramusicales, solo las encontramos si nos referimos al primero. No obstante, al compartir título, ¿podríamos considerar el mismo programa o habría que tratarlas como obras totalmente independientes? Otro punto en común es que ambas obras tienen sus respectivas versiones para piano y para orquesta.

As well as the first Mephisto Waltz, the second (published in 1881) is also believed to have the same programme. This generates a bit of controversy, since, if we stick exclusively to the notes left by Franz Liszt (1811-1886) in terms of extra-musical references, we only find them if we refer to the first one. However, as they share the same title, could we consider them to be the same programme or should they be treated as completely independent works? Another point in common is that both works have their respective versions for piano and orchestra
