El artículo tiene como objetivo investigar las fuentes utilizadas por Dante para la redacción de la vida de San Pier Damiani en el canto XXI del Paradiso. La investigación involucra la principal biografía del monje de Ravenna, la de su discípulo Giovanni da Lodi, y las noticias en nuestro poseso sobre la difusión (escasa) del culto de Pier Damiani a principios del siglo XIV. Después de la propagación del texto de la Comedia, el culto al santo de Fonte Avellana será promovido nuevamente, en particular por la Iglesia de Faenza, y también intelectuales como Petrarca y Boccacio comenzarán a buscar más información sobre su vida.

This article sets out to research the sources used by Dante for writing of the life of St. Peter Damian in canto XXI of Paradiso. This quest involves the principal biography of that monk of Ravenna, that written by his disciple Giovanni da Lodi, and what knowledge is to be had concerning the (limited) extent of the veneration of St. Peter Damian in the beginning of the 14th century. With increasing distribution of the commedia, the veneration of the Saint of Fonte Avellana was once more being promoted, particularly in the Church of Faenza, and also intellectuals such as Petrarca and Boccaccio set their hand to seeking further information about his life.
