El rito de inauguración de la vendimia constituye una oportunidad de socialización para el basileus y la élite de la Basileia, por lo que se injerta en la liturgia de la corte de Bizancio del s. X. Esta celebración explota el simbolismo de las uvas, antiguo signo de prosperidad, que el Emperador entrega al Patriarca y luego a los demás patricios. Por medio del banquete se permite una mayor socialización de los participantes, donde se disuelven las tensiones y se reafirman las jerarquías.

The rite of Harvest’s Inauguration constitutes an opportunity for socialization for the Basileus and the élite of Basileia, therefore the ritual is inserted in the court liturgy of the Byzantium during the 10th century. This ceremony exploited the symbolism of grapes, an ancient sign of prosperity, which became a gift between the Emperor and the Patriarch and the other patricians. During the banquet, the court allowed a further occasion of socialization for the participants and so, it dissolves the tensions and reaffirms the hierarchies.
