    Nos estudos atuais sobre os séculos X e XI, um dos principais procedimentos adotados pelos historiadores é a reconsideração crítica das fontes episcopais e monásticas. Elas são avaliadas, especialmente, tendo em vista os fatores que estimularam os processos de escrita e conservação. Por meio desta abordagem, é possível averiguar nos documentos as concepções de mundo dos clérigos, ou seja, os modos pelos quais eles representaram suas respectivas visões acerca da sociedade. Com isso, consideramos que os textos são vestígios valiosos para compreender como abades e bispos se situaram diante das relações sociais do período. A produção das fontes, as maneiras de elas serem arquivadas e os discursos nelas mobilizados são aspectos vinculados às aspirações políticas de cada um de seus autores. Partindo destas premissas metodológicas, o presente trabalho proporá algumas reflexões sobre a Gesta abbatum Lobiensium, documento redigido pelo monge Folcuíno ao final do século X, no qual foram sintetizados os atos e as sucessões dos abades do monastério Beneditino de Lobbes. As razões do empreendimento da escrita, bem como a composição da narrativa, serão analisadas por intermédio de uma contextualização mais ampla, que permitirá examinar, principalmente, o momento político vivenciado pela abadia e pelo seu autor.

    In the current studies on the 10th and 11th centuries, one of the main procedures adopted by historians is the critical reconsideration of episcopal and monastic sources. They are evaluated, especially, in view of the factors that stimulated the writing and conservation processes. Through this approach, it is possible to ascertain in the documents the clerics' worldviews, that is, the ways in which they represented their respective views on society. With that, we consider that the texts are valuable vestiges to understand how abbots and bishops were placed before the social relations of the period. The production of the sources, the ways in which they are archived and the speeches mobilized in them are aspects linked to the political aspirations of each of their authors. Based on these methodological premises, the present work will propose some reflections on the Gesta abbatum Lobiensium, a document written by the monk Folcuin at the end of the 10th century, in which the acts and successions of the abbots of the Benedictine monastery of Lobbes were synthesized. The reasons for the undertaking of writing, as well as the composition of the narrative, will be analyzed through a broader contextualization, which will allow to examine, mainly, the political moment experienced by the abbey and its author
