En este artículo se analiza el pensamiento del abogado extremeño Vicente Paíno y Hurtado que fue el gran defensor de Extremadura en el largo pleito legal que sostuvo con la Mesta. Su pensamiento se caracterizó por el racionalismo, el reformismo económico y social y la fe en el progreso al servicio de la Extremadura agraria del siglo XVIII.

In this article, the thought of the Extremaduran lawyer Vicente Paíno y Hurtado,who was the great advocate for the cause of Extremadura in the long-running lawsuit sustained with the Mesta, is analysed. Paíno’s thought was characterised by rationalism, economic and social reformism and the faith in progress put at the service of 18th century rural Extremadura.
