    En este artículo se explora la capacidad del materialismo histórico para articular una historia de la democracia que ponga el foco en el conflicto social. El artículo comienza reflexionando sobre el repliegue y auge del marxismo en el mundo académico. Continúa definiendo la democracia capitalista como objeto de estudio e indaga sobre el marxismo político como herramienta para la construcción de esta interpretación histórica. Se siguen exponiendo antecedentes historiográficos en este campo para finalizar con una exposición de las hipótesis de nuestro plan de estudio de la investigación apuntada.

    This article explores the ability of historical materialism to articulate a history of democracy that focuses on social conflict as the main engine for the emergence and consolidation of representative democratic institutions. The article begins by reflecting on the withdrawal and rise of Marxism in the academic world. It continues to define democracy as an object of study and investigates the capacity of political Marxism as a tool for the construction of this historical interpretation. Historiographical background in this field continues to be exposed to end with an exposition of the hypotheses of our targeted research plan
