Los cuidados de enfermería tienen una especial relevancia en la etapa final de la vida de las personas, brindando unos cuidados holísticos y humanistas. De alguna forma los Cuidados Paliativos y la muerte están asociados sobre todo en los casos de sufrimiento, dolor y desesperanza del paciente ante el fin de la vida.
En los últimos tiempos, los Cuidados Paliativos vuelven a tener la importancia que tuvieron tiempo atrás, y ayudan a que la muerte se desarrolle muchas veces en el domicilio familiar.
El objetivo de los Cuidados Paliativos es promover el confort mejorando la vida del paciente en el final de su vida y el acercamiento a una muerte tranquila, dando un soporte emocional a sus familiares y entorno.
El ESAD (Equipo de Soporte de Atención Domiciliaria) son los equipos de referencia en Cuidados Paliativos, que además de soporte y colaboración con la asistencia primaria, también facilita el proceso de morir en el domicilio, reduciendo así la demanda de otros servicios, ingresos hospitalarios y fallecimientos en el hospital.
Objetivo: Se realiza una revisión bibliográfica descriptiva para conocer la acción de Enfermería en Cuidados Paliativos en una situación terminal del paciente en relación con su enfermedad.
Metodología: Estudio de revisión bibliográfica. Para la recopilación de los artículos se han revisado diferentes bases de datos y fuentes bibliográficas: CUIDEN PLUS, ENFISPO, IBECS, GUIASALUD, SCIELO, LILACS, OAIster, FISTERRA.
La búsqueda se centró en tres aspectos: Cuidados paliativos, Enfermería y situación terminal. De todos los artículos encontrados se seleccionaron los más relevantes a partir de los cuales se elaboró esta revisión.
Conclusiones: La actuación de Enfermería frente a la muerte es una tarea muy importante, ya que su labor es ayudar a los enfermos terminales a sobrellevar su muerte y a morir en paz. Para ello los cuidados que ofrecen son los Cuidados Paliativos cuyo pilar básico es la visión global y la búsqueda del bienestar de los pacientes.
Los Cuidados Paliativos son un tipo de cuidados interdisciplinario incluyendo a los familiares en la toma de decisiones.
Se ha evidenciado un vacío existente en la docencia sobre este tipo de pacientes y los cuidados integrales que requieren, así como de protocolos de actuación de Enfermería en estos cuidados. Por lo tanto la falta de formación en Cuidados Paliativos genera sentimientos negativos hacia el paciente terminal.

Palliative care is a kind of interdisciplinary care including family members in decision-making.
It highlighted a gap in the teaching of these patients and comprehensive care they require, as well as protocols such care Nursing. Therefore, the lack of training in palliative care has negative feelings toward the terminal patient.
