Les comunitats assentades al Baix Vinalopó al llarg de més de 2.000 anys s’han relacionat amb el seu entorn físic, l’han explotat, l’han transformat i s’han adaptat a ell i, amb el transcurs del temps, han anat configurant un paisatge i han anat acumulant un patrimoni natural i cultural que constitueixen les nostres senyes d’identitat. Uns elements patrimonials que no sols són una herència del passat que hem de preservar, sinó que representen també un valuós instrument per a fer front als reptes del present, si els sabem interpretar i gestionar de manera adient. Els horts de palmeres són un exemple paradigmàtic d’això i cal estudiar-los en profunditat per poder conéixer els importants serveis que han prestat en el passat i les grans possibilitats que ens ofereixen en el present.

The communities settled in El Baix Vinalopó region for more than 2,000 years have been connected to their physical environment, exploiting it, transforming it, and adapting to it, and have shaped a specific form of landscape overtime, accumulating a natural and cultural heritage that make up our identifying traits. These heritage items are not only a legacy of the past that must be preserved, but they also represent a valuable tool to meet the challenges of the present if we know how to interpret and manage them properly. Palm orchards are a representative example of this, and they should be studied in depth to get to know the important services they provided in the past and the great possibilities they offer us in the present.
