Resumen de De vil·la a alqueria: el Moncaio – torre del Descarregador (Guardamar del Segura, Alacant)

  Els treballs desenvolupats per l’Institut d’Investigació en Arqueologia i Patrimoni Històric (INAPH), en col·laboració amb l’Ajuntament de Guardamar del Segura, han permés documentar en extensió una vil·la romana costanera sota les restes d’un assentament musulmà a la platja del Moncaio, 3 km al sud del nucli de Guardamar del Segura i a uns 100 m del mar. Aquest important conjunt arqueològic inclou la torre del Descarregador, una possible torre almenara dels segles X-XI que fou construïda sobre una de les estances absidades pertanyents a la vil·la, el que confirma l’existència de dues fases d’ocupació superposades relacionades amb la mesquita i les instal·lacions industrials del Moncaio excavades amb anterioritat. L’assentament té un gran interés per la diacronia, l’entorn i la intensa relació amb altres emplaçaments coetanis situats entre la desembocadura del riu Segura, a uns 4 km al nord (especialment amb el complex de la Ràpita de les dunes de Guardamar), i l’Embarcador de l’Estació a uns 3,5 km, als voltants del nucli urbà de la Mata i de les salines que porten el seu nom.

  The work undertaken by the Instituto de Investigación en Arqueología y Patrimonio Histórico (INAPH), in collaboration with the Guardamar del Segura Town Council, has made it possible to document the size of a Roman coastal villa which extends under the remains of an interesting Muslim settlement, on Playa del Moncayo, about 3 km south of the town of Guardamar del Segura and about 100 metres from the sea. This important archaeological site includes the Torre del Descargador, a possible crenellated tower from the 10th-11th centuries that was built on top of one of the absent rooms belonging to the Roman villa. This confirms the existence of two overlapping phases of occupation linked to the mosque and the industrial installations of the Moncayo, both excavated earlier. The settlement is of great interest due to its diachrony, its environment, and its intense relationship with other contemporary sites located between the estuary of the Segura River, about 4 km to the north (especially with the complex of the Rábita de las Dunas de Guardamar), and the Embarcadero de la Estación, about 3.5 km away, in the surroundings of the urban centre of La Mata and the salt lakes that carry the same name.
