Resumen de Joaquim Montero i Delgado, trànsits i cruïlles

Núria Santamaria

  • Joaquim Montero was born in Valencia in 1869 and died in Santiago deChile in 1942. This chapter deals with two interrelated facets of his profes-sional career as an actor, director, playwright, impresario, translator, andteacher. First is a consideration of the mechanisms used in order to builda public image directly associated with his artistic virtues. Second is a briefanalysis of the comic aspects of the plays Montero wrote for the Romeaand the Novetats Theatres of Barcelona during the 1920s. It turns out thatthere were few differences between the comic techniques of these plays andthe styles used for his shows in Barcelona's more low-brow Paralel district.
