Governance in worker cooperatives can look and feel like that within any other co-op, but it may also be dramatically different. Worker-owned cooperatives often seek safe and humane workplaces, a voice in management, and decent wages and benefits. This people-centred focus, when the owners are the workers, creates opportunities for building humanistic practices into the governance and decision-making of the cooperative. Sometimes the line between governance and operations can become blurred to meet the needs of the members. This chapter considers different ways that worker co-ops engage voice and align governance with the values and principles of cooperation.
