En aquest article s’examinen les opinions que el crític literari Ramon D. Perés té de l’obra i la figura de Jacint Verdaguer. Inicialment les formes i les temàtiques antiquades que utilitza s’allunyen de les idees de modernitat que alguns crítics comencen a defensar, malgrat que no es gosi qüestionar el valor de la seva obra. Però Perés defensa la necessitat d’actualització dels seus textos i ressegueix l’esforç del poeta per fer-ho, fins a convertir-se en l’iniciador de la poesia catalana moderna.
This article analyses the opinions of the literary critic Ramon D. Perés regarding the works and figure of Jacint Verdaguer. Initially, his old-fashioned forms and themes move away from the ideas of modernity that some critics are beginning to defend, although the value of his work stands unquestioned. Nevertheless, Perés argues the need to update his texts, and traces the poet’s effort to do so, identifying Verdaguer as the founder of modern Catalan poetry.
