Even though the Canary Islands were not part of US military planning during the Second World War —as was the case of Britain— the Atlantic archipelago became a prominent target of US intelligence. The military intelligence divisions of the United States, in collaboration with the diplomatic attachés established in Madrid, as well as the consuls and naval observers located on the islands, dedicated considerable efforts to the collection, systematization and updating of strategic information on the Canary Islands (geographical, topographical, economic, sociocultural, and military data). The main objective of this article is to make an approach to the United States military intelligence in the Canary Islands, analyzing the operational information on the islands that was being collected in Washington, especially at the beginning of the North American military campaign.
