Los retratos infantiles de Isabel II y Carlos Luis de Borbón: la imagen al servicio de la legitimidad al trono español

    Fernando VII (1784-1833), al morir su tercera esposa se encontraba sin un heredero directo, no obstante, su hermano el infante Carlos María Isidro (1788-1855) tenía tres hijos varones, y según el Reglamento de sucesión de 1713 era el heredero al trono mientras su hermano no tuviese un heredero varón. La búsqueda de una nueva esposa que le pudiese dar un heredero que siguiera su estirpe era primordial para el monarca español.

    En este artículo se analizan las imágenes regias entre los retratos realizados por Vicente López (1772-1850) a Carlos Luis de Borbón y Braganza (1818-1861), hijo del infante Carlos María Isidro, como heredero al trono de España, y posteriormente a M.ª Luisa Isabel (Isabel II), primogénita de Fernando VII y heredera después de la promulgación de la Pragmática Sanción.

    Fernando VII (1784-1833), when his third wife died, found himself without a direct heir. However, his brother, the infante Carlos María Isidro (1788-1855), had three sons and, according to the succession regulations of 1713, he was the heir to the throne as long as his brother did not have a male heir. The search for a new wife who could give him an heir who followed his lineage was essential for the Spanish monarch.

    This article will analyze the regal images among the portraits made by Vicente López (1772-1850) of Carlos Luis de Borbón y Braganza (1818-1861), son of the infante Carlos María Isidro, as the heir to the throne of Spain and, later, to María Luisa Isabel, eldest daughter of Fernando VII and official heiress to the throne after the promulgation of the Pragmatic Sanction of 1830.
