Resumen de Audio-based learning at work: preliminary results of an exploratory interview study

A. Ogunyemi, Merja Bauters

  • Within the broad spectrum of workplace learning, there is a growing interest in workplace learning of routine physical workers such as workers in construction sites, assembly lines, cleaning and maintenance, and farmers. New technologies are used increasingly and evaluated; among those growing in popularity are Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Extended Reality (XR), Mixed Reality (MR). However, voice-controlled learning is less studied, although voice-based interventions are an innovation that is growingly reshaping education. We conducted in-depth semi-structured interviews with Finnish farmers to explore our notion for voice-controlled situated learning for routine physical workers. The preliminary findings show three key considerations; features that are important for implementing voice-controlled learning audio applications, learning modes used and desired, as well as the challenges the farmers had experienced and imagined. The results are promising as interviewees wish to use the voice-control learning mobile application when it is in the test phase.
