    Desde la salida de la dictadura y hasta finalizar el siglo XX, los temas vinculados a las violaciones a los derechos humanos y los crímenes de Lesa Humanidad habían estado excluidos de la agenda pública. Recién en el año 2000, y con la administración del presidente Batlle, algunas de las perspectivas relativas al Pasado Reciente cobraron relevancia y se integraron a la agenda política. Pero fue con la asunción del primer gobierno de izquierda en el año 2005 que se produjo un cambio más significativo. En este contexto la nueva administración frenteamplista convocó a la Universidad de la República para abordar la investigación sobre lo sucedido con los detenidos-desaparecidos y la búsqueda de sus restos. En este marco surgió el equipo de investigación histórica, eje central del presente artículo. De esta manera recorreremos su derrotero de trabajo, las opciones metodológicas, las transformaciones y la ampliación de sus cometidos y objetivos de investigación y el impacto generado a partir del apoyo a la justicia en las denuncias penales por crímenes de lesa humanidad.

    Since the end of the dictatorship and until the end of the XX century, issues related to human rights violations and crimes against Humanity had been excluded from the public agenda. Only in the year 2000, and with President Batlle’s administration some of the perspectives regarding the Recent Past gained relevance and were integrated into the political agenda. But it will be with the assumption of the first leftist government in 2005 that a more significant change will occur. In this context the new administration summons the University of the Republic to address the investigation of what happened with the detained-disappeared and the search for their remains. Within this framework, the Historical Research Team emerges, the central axis of this article. In this way, we will explore its course of work, the methodological options, the transformations and the extension of its tasks and research objectives and the impact generated from the support for Justice in criminal complaints for crimes against humanity.
