    El objetivo de este trabajo es indagar acerca de los diversos modos en los que la compleja tensión entre nacionalismo y cosmopolitismo se resuelven en el proyecto goetheano de la Weltliteratur,  uno de los primeros intentos deliberados por forjar una disciplina abocada a pensar la literatura en términos que universales,  reconocido como el puntapié inicial para la génesis de las Literaturas comparadas, y en  los manifiestos de Acta Comparationis Litterarum Universarum (1877-1888) escritos por filólogo y germanista húngaro Hugo Metzl, en la que se convertiría en la primera revista académica dedicada a las Literaturas comparadas. Asimismo se compararán  las políticas con respecto a la traducción e intercambio literario propuestas en los textos programáticos de Goethe y Metzl. Finalmente, se procurará explicar el pasaje del concepto “literatura mundial” a “literaturas comparadas” como un intento por prevenir las tendencias homogeneizantes a nivel cultural latentes ya a fines del siglo XIX.

    The aim of this paper is to investigate the various ways in which the complex tension between nationalism and cosmopolitanism is resolved in Goethe's project of Weltliteratur, one of the first deliberate attempts to forge a discipline dedicated to thinking literature in  universal terms,  acknowledged as the starting point for the genesis of Comparative Literatures, and in the manifestos of Acta Comparationis Litterarum Universarum (1877-1888) written by the Hungarian philologist and Germanist Hugo Metzl, in what was to become the first academic journal devoted to Comparative Literatures. It will also compare the policies regarding translation and literary exchange proposed in Goethe's and Metzl's programmatic texts. Finally, it will attempt to explain the shift from the concept of "World Literature" to "Comparative Literatures" as an attempt to prevent the culturally homogenising tendencies already latent at the end of the nineteenth century.
