    El artículo analiza la situación de la Escuela de Artes Musicales de la Universidad de Costa Rica en el lapso de dos décadas, de 1972 a 1991, en un intento por comprender los cambios que se generaron durante este periodo, los cuales transformaron la institución y contribuyeron direc-tamente al desarrollo musical del país. Se aislaron los elementos considerados relevantes para estudiar el fenómeno como son las reformas curriculares, el componente humano, los proyectos institucionales, las condiciones en infraestructura, equipo y material didáctico y la proyección a través de la actividad artística, la creación musical y la investigación

    The article presents an analysis of the situation of the School of Musical Arts of the University of Costa Rica during a period of two decades, from 1972 to 1991, in an attempt to understand the changes that happened in the institution, which promoted directly the musical development of the country. The study of these elements was considered relevant to understand the phenomenon, which are the changes in the curriculum, the human component (students, professors and other staff), institutional projects, availability of adequate teaching equipment, materials and physical insta-llations, and finally the impact of the institution in the Costa Rican society through its artistic activity, research and musical creation
