Resumen de Violencia de género: una reflexión entre el pasado y el presente

Rafael Roca Ricart

  • Based on the analysis of certain news offered by the two main Valencian newspapers of the 17th century, that of Pere Joan Porcar and that of Joaquim Aierdi, we intend to detect what perception baroque society had of the aggressions of men against women: both in the family sphere –private–, as well as with the general public. Thus, we will see how sexist violence was perceived, very often, as a form of control of society. Once the appropriate examples have been presented, it will be necessary to assess the documentation andformulate a series of questions to encourage student reflection. Thus, they will be invited to search for news of gender-based violence in the current periodical press, so that they can draw a parallel between the behavior of baroque society and the present-day one. With this use of historical materials we also intend to demonstrate the multiple possibilities that historical documentation presents –diary books– that are too often marginalized.
