    El periódico El Centinela Español fue un órgano de prensa fundado y dirigido por Telésforo García, un notable de la colonia española del último cuarto del siglo XIX en México. Los objetivos centrales fueron la defensa y la legitimación del orden político del porfiriato y a su vez del proceso de conquista y colonización de México por parte de España, como una manera de combatir la creciente hispanofobia que se vivía en la sociedad mexicana. Los argumentos utilizados fueron las concepciones positivistas de la sociedad y una visión evolucionista que encontraba sus justificaciones en el contexto histórico y en la supervivencia del “más apto”, marcando la distinción para el caso español, en donde se protegió a la población indígena de su “destino inexorable”. que era su desaparición y exterminio ante las “razas más fuertes”.

    The Newspaper El Centinela Español was an organ of the press, founded and directed by Telesforo Garcia, a notable figure of the Spanish colony in Mexico during the last quarter of the 19th century. Its central objectives were the defense and legitimation of the political order of the Porfiriato and, in turn, of the Spanish conquest and colonization of Mexico, as a way of combatting the growing Hispanophobia that Mexican society was experiencing. The arguments used were the positivist conceptions of society and an evolutionist vision that found its justifications in the historical context and in the theory of the survival of the “fittest”, marking the distinction for the Spanish case, in which the indigenous population was protected from its “inexorable destiny”: its disappearance and extermination by the “stronger races”.
