    Los estudios oficiales sobre edición en España son limitados, y en consecuencia la investigación científica es escasa. No existe un análisis sobre la producción de tesis doctorales que aborden la materia en cual-quiera de sus aspectos, y en consecuencia se desconocen gran parte de las cuestiones vinculadas a la historia y producción de uno de los sectores que generan mayor riqueza y que se considera la industria cultural por excelencia. Es objeto de este artículo conocer la producción de tesis doctorales sobre la historia e industria editorial en la universidad española, con los objetivos específicos de obtener información sobre las materias tratadas, los autores, los directores de las tesis y las instituciones donde se han realizado las investigaciones, en un contexto temporal comprendido entre 1976 y 2021. Los resultados generales han sido los siguientes: 103 tesis de 31 universidades (40 faculta-des y 75 departamentos) sobre 16 materias diferentes, defendidas en 40 facultades y correspondientes a 75 departamentos, dirigidas por 123 profesores.

    Official studies on publishing in Spain are limited and as a result little scientific research is available. There is no analysis of the productionof doctoral theses which deal with this subject in any of its aspects, and so, little is known about matters related to the history and the production of one of the sectors which produces the greatest wealth of material and is considered the cul-tural industry par excellence. The goal of this article is to study the production of doctoral theses on the publishing industry and its history in the Spanish universities, with the specific purpose of obtaining information on the specific subject matters covered, the authors, the advisors or tutors of these theses and the institutions where these research studies have been carried out, within the period of 1976 and 2021. The general results have been the following: 103 theses from 31 universities (40 faculties and 75 departments) on 16 different subjects, which were defended in 40 faculties and corresponded to 75 departments, under the supervision of 123 professors.
