    Partindo de algumas notas biográficas e históricas para contextualizar Luandino Vieira, escritor militante que elaborou um novo cânone das literaturas pós-coloniais de língua portuguesa, refletiremos sobre a importância da memória como instrumento de resistência em condições de limitação da liberdade (Todorov, 1996), destacando o valor auxiliar da escrita literária como fonte histórica, central no âmbito da produção do escritor, quase inteiramente surgida no cárcere. Finalmente, através da análise de dois contos de Vidas Novas, será avaliada a função de testemunho da totalidade da sua obra, com foco na representação da violência exercida pelas forças coloniais sobre o povo angolano.

    Starting with some biographical and historical notes to contextualize Luandino Vieira, a militant writer who elaborated a new canon of post-colonial literatures in the Portuguese language, we will reflect on the importance of memory as an instrument of resistance in conditions of limitation of freedom (Todorov, 1996), highlighting the auxiliary value of literary writing as a historical source, central in the scope of the writer's production, almost entirely born in prison. Finally, through the analysis of two short stories of Vidas Novas, the function of testimony of the whole of his work will be evaluated, focusing on the representation of the violence exerted by the colonial forces on the Angolan people.
