Resumen de Alguns considerandos sobre a Antiguidade Tardia no Alentejo centro-oriental, a partir de um conjunto de fechos de cinturão

This study arises from the analysis of a private collection, gathered at the end of the 20th century, in the surroundings of São Romão, Vila Viçosa County, where the presence of six belt buckles of high medieval chronology stands out. Given the relative scarcity of this type of material in southern Portugal, its study set the tone for a reflection on this period in the interior region of the Alto Alentejo, focusing mainly on the 6th and 7th centuries. This analysis allowed us to question a series of historiographical considerations that tend to associate these objects indiscriminately with Visigoth or Byzantine cultures.
The presence of these artefacts also allows reflecting the cultural diversity of a time with great changes in the political and religious domains.

Este estudo surge a partir da análise de uma colecção particular, reunida nos finais do século XX, na envolvente de São Romão, Vila Viçosa, de onde se destacou a presença de seis fechos de cinturão de cronologia alto-medieval. Dada a relativa escassez deste tipo de materiais no Sul de Portugal, o seu estudo deu o mote para uma reflexão em torno deste período na região do interior alto alentejano, concentrando sobretudo nos séculos VI e VII. Esta análise permitiu-nos questionar uma série de considerações historiográficas que tendem a associar os fechos e objectos de adorno típicos destas cronologias indiscriminadamente a culturas visigodas ou bizantinas.
A presença destes artefactos permite ainda espelhar a diversidade cultural de um momento com grandes alterações nos domínios político e religioso.
