El mundo rural gallego vivió durante la transición la aparición de nuevas instituciones democráticas tras cuarenta años de dictadura, algunas pilotadas por la élite procedente del régimen y otras en las que la sociedad civil dejó su sello. Los poderes locales, además de un terreno de disputa entre lo viejo y lo nuevo en un sentido político, vivieron también las transformaciones socioeconómicas que, al igual que el resto del Estado, sufría la Galicia de la época. En el seno de los partidos políticos, los sindicatos agrícolas, las cooperativas y otras instituciones del mundo rural se sitúan grandes claves sobre la llegada de la democracia a los pueblos, que a menudo han sido relegadas a un segundo plano.

Galician rural world experienced during the transition the emergence of new democratic institutions after forty years of dictatorship, some led by the elite from the regime and others in which civil society left its mark. The local powers, in addition to a terrain of dispute between the old and the new in a political sense, also lived the socio-economic transformations that, like the rest of the State, suffered the Galicia of the time. Within political parties, agricultural unions, cooperatives and other institutions of the rural world hold great keys to the arrival of democracy to the peoples, which have often been relegated to the background.
