    El cuidado parental en pequeños roedores silvestres ha sido documentado principalmente bajo condiciones de laboratorio, existiendo un vacío de conocimiento sobre este aspecto en su medio natural para la mayoría de las especies. Al ser un rasgo comportamental importante para la supervivencia de las especies, se describe un caso de cuidado parental in situ en el roedor Rhipidomys fulviventer. Se observó un comportamiento natural de cuidado por parte de la madre hacia sus crías justo después del parto al interior de una trampa Sherman. Este es el primer reporte de cuidado parental postnatal inmediato de esta especie.

    Parental care in small wild rodents has been mainly documented under laboratory conditions, meaning that there exists a vast knowledge gap on this aspect for most species in the wild. Therefore, as it is an important behavioral trait for the survival of the species, the parental care for the rodent Rhipidomys fulviventer was recorded in situ. A natural behavior was observed for the mother protecting the offspring immediately after birth inside a Sherman trap. Our finding is the first report of immediate postnatal parental care for the species.
