  • Waste disposal may be defined as the transfer of matter from society to nature. In a sustainable society a balanced material exchange between "ecosphere" and "technosphere" is required. The present society is gathering mass and still the emissions from society are endangering the quality of natural environments. In the long run society is probably more limited by a deteriorating environmental quality than the ability to provide raw materials.
