Resumen de La construcción del territorio en los discursos presidenciales: la ocupación republicana de La Frontera, Chile, 1883-1891

En la Araucanía, último territorio de ocupación del Estado chileno sobre tierras resistidas por los mapuche, se desarrollaron estrategias republicanas a fines del s. XIX que revelan sus maniobras para imponer, extender y consolidar procesos modernizadores. Desde los discursos presidenciales de Domingo Santa María y José Manuel Balmaceda, se examina el papel del poder ejecutivo por materializar la presencia del Estado en la Araucanía; en especial el desarrollo de la infraestructura ferroviaria, y en particular la construcción del viaducto del Malleco como hito que extiende las comunicaciones y el transporte hacia el sur de Chile.

In the Araucania, the last territory occupied by the Chilean State, on land resisted by the Mapuche, Republican strategies were implemented at the end of the 19th century that reveal their maneuvers to impose, extend, and consolidate modernizing processes. The role of the executive power to materialize State presence in the Araucania is examined from the Presidential speeches of Domingo Santa Maria and José Manuel Balmaceda, particularly the development of railroad infrastructure, and specifically the construction of the Malleco viaduct as a milestone that extends communications and transportation to the south of Chile.
