Ekphrastic passages in Maria Bellonci’s Tu vipera gentile · Ekphrasis plays an essential role in a lot of Maria Bellonci’s works. This article will examine the passages of Tu vipera gentile (1972) devoted to the description of works of art, especially paintings and sculptures. These passages show how the writer drew inspiration from some famous places and works of art of Mantua and Milan, which are the setting of the three stories Delitto di Stato, Soccorso a Dorotea and Tu vipera gentile. In addition to this, the article aims to shed light on the presence of some topics of ekphrastic literature, such as the importance of the role played by the observer and the relationship between the description and the narration.

L’ecfrasi riveste una funzione essenziale in numerose opere di Maria Bellonci. Soffermandosi su Tu vipera gentile (1972), il presente contributo esamina i passaggi dedicati alla descrizione di opere d’arte, in particolare dipinti e sculture. Tali brani rivelano come l’autrice abbia tratto ampia ispirazione da alcuni celebri luoghi e opere d’arte delle città di Mantova e Milano, in cui sono ambientati i tre racconti Delitto di Stato, Soccorso a Dorotea e Tu vipera gentile. Inoltre, l’articolo cerca di mettere in luce la presenza di vari motivi topici della letteratura di tipo ecfrastico, come l’importanza del ruolo ricoperto dal soggetto osservante e il rapporto che intercorre tra descrizione e narrazione.
