Resumen de An Antwerp-by-birth applying for a position at the Majorca Mint in 1690

Jaume Boada Salom

  • In 1690, an Antwerp-by-birth arrived on Majorca with his family and submitted a request to work in the Majorca mint. He introduced himself as a moneyer and assumed that it was hard to find enough skilled professionals to work in the island’s mint. However, he was looking for a manual job in a time when most European mints were being mechanized and mechanical equipment started replacing humans in the minting proces. This short note will allow numismatists to discover the (albeit unsure) name of a moneyer who has so far been undocumented
