  • Improvement of solid waste management (SWM) in developing countries is an urgent need, not only for the well-being of the people directly affected but also for the overall world community Avoidance of waste generation is the option which should be given first priority as long as it is practical. It is followed by others options such as re-use, material recovery, thermal recovery treatment and final disposal in the order of preference. This preference is called the hierarchy of SWM. In these days, the need of establishing an SWM system according to this hierarchy is well recognized all over the world.
