  • «Ritrovare i fili della poesia, il compito è questo». Fioretta Mazzei, a Contemplative Involved in the Issues of her Times · Fioretta Mazzei (1923-1998) shared with Giorgio La Pira, who was mayor of Florence in the 1950s and 1960s, a long spiritual and political friendship that marked their lives as well the history of the city. The essay tells her story, that of a contemplative woman involved in the issues of her times, highlighting how close she was to the better-known La Pira, as well as how independent, and narrates her friendship with other significant representatives of the Italian Catholic sphere of the 1900s, such as Don Lorenzo Milani. Sharing Milani’s choice to work for the poor and «give voice to the poor», she transformed her rich Florentine palace into a «house open to all», an educational space based on hospitality, fraternity and encounter
