  • At the Origin of Modern Europe: Faith, Reason, Secularism · This essay intends to relate the concepts of faith, reason and secularism with the origin of modern Europe. In particular, one of the terms from which to understand today’s concept of secularism will be sought in the inextricable link between faith and reason, as understood in medieval thought. In this analysis, therefore, the Middle Ages will be interpreted as the era that laid the foundations for the fundamental dialectic on which the European concept of secularism is built, namely that between faith and reason
