  • Today, due to the availability of water sources and the incidence of human activity in the quality a raw water, the treatment of water previous to its consumption constitutes a key factor in the normal development of human communities. Among all the stages that are included in a typical drinking water treatment plant, a proper clarification influences heavily the efficacy of the whole process. The characteristics of the chemical aids used in the clarification step (coagulants and flocculants) is of capital importance. The development of new products capable to yield good performances with acceptable costs has been a challenge for the last years. The appearance of new legal regulations in this field has added new factors to take into account. A general overview of this situations is the aim of this report.
