    O objetivo deste estudo é o de analisar práticas de leitura e de escrita no seio da comunidade de Santa Clara de Vila do Conde, entre os finais do século XVI e os inícios da centúria seguinte, através de uma abordagem que cruza os universos da literatura de espiritualidade, da história monástica e da cultura gráfica. O cruzamento destes diferentes vértices permitirá obter uma visão mais clara sobre este convento de enclausuradas, nomeadamente no que respeita aos textos que produziram, aos livros que leram, às obras que conservavam na sua livraria, bem como aos documentos que subscreveram através das suas subscrições autógrafas. Em todos estes momentos, e de formas muito variadas, revelaram a importância que o “conhecimento das letras” tinha tanto dentro como fora do claustro.

    The aim of this study is to analyze reading and writing practices within the community of Santa Clara de Vila do Conde, between the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the following century, through an approach that crosses the universes of the literature of spirituality, monastic history and graphic culture. The intersection of these different vertices will allow a clearer view of this convent of cloistered women, namely with regard to the texts they produced, the books they read, the works they kept in their library, as well as the documents they subscribed through their autograph signatures. In all these moments, and in very different ways, they revealed the importance that “knowledge of letters” had both inside and outside the cloister.
