Ethno-archaeological approach to interpret the meaning of the “verracos” or wild boars sculptures and similar figures of the Iberia Celtica from the perspective of those who created them in order to avoid anachronistic visions from our rational mentality. The iconographic representation of the “verraco” supposes a graphic language parallel to the oral language, which synthesized mythical narratives of Iberia Celtica partially preserved in popular traditions. The “verraco” was the visualization of the Numen loci, of a chthonic, solar and beneficial nature that protected the hill-fort, its territory and its meadows, its people and its cattle, as Father, Patron and Protector of the community and guarantor of its well-being and its riches.
