The History of the so-called « barbaric world » which became established at the end of the Roman Empire, and more precisely, of the Wisigothic kingdoms of Southern France and Iberic peninsula, from the Vth to the VIIIth century, keeps on developing. The History of art of this period is more difficult to establish, and, probably therefore, gives rise to fewer researches. The article tries to assess what we know about arts in the first capital of the Wisigothic kingdom, Toulouse, in the Vth century.

L’histoire du « monde barbare », qui s’est installé à la fin de l’Empire romain, et plus ponctuellement des royaumes wisigothiques du Midi de la France et de la péninsule Ibérique, du ve au viiie siècle, ne cesse de se développer. L’histoire de l’art de cette période est plus difficile à établir et, sans doute pour cela, attire moins de travaux de recherche. Cet article essaie de faire le point sur ce que nous pouvons savoir des arts dans la première capitale du royaume wisigothique, Toulouse, au ve siècle.
