The Festa or Misteri d’Elx as a manifestation of intangible cultural heritage, can also be considered as a pioneer in the dissemination of its values and characteristics through a museum. In 1958, within the Parish Museum created in the church of Santa María de Elche, the then National Mystery Board of Elche, paid for and organized a room dedicated to the Misteri to spread its knowledge throughout the year. Over time, that primitive museum broke up into two centers related to the Assumptionist drama and in operation today. On the one hand, the Municipal Museum of the Festa, created in 1997 in the emblematic hermitage of San Sebastián (s. XV), which offers a complete vision of the Misteri d’Elx through a striking audiovisual, panels with texts and photographs, models and costumes, and objects used at different times in the representation itself. On the other hand, the Museum of the Virgin of the Assumption, patron Saint of Elche (MUVAPE), located in the Basilica itself which since 2008 shows part of the museum collection of Santa María, especially the rich trousseau of the Patron Saint of Elche, with historical pieces of great interest, dated between the 16th and 20th centuries, used in the annual representations.
In addition, the inauguration of the Casa de la Festa in 1988, as the headquarters of the Patronato del Misteri d’Elx, has also allowed to musealize its rich artistic. To these funds is added the important Archive of the Board of Trustees of the Misteri d’Elx, consolidated as a reference center for research on the Festa.
