Desafiaments i oportunitats en la producció d’un procés de recerca formativa amb metodologia qualitativa i treball de camp online

    Aquest article es proposa descriure i analitzar un procés de recerca formativa que es va dur a terme en l’assignatura de Disseny Etnogràfic.

    Aquest va presentar importants desafiaments i oportunitats a causa de la impossibilitat de fer treball de camp presencial per la pandèmia per la COVID-19. Per tant, es va fer treball de camp online.

    A partir d’una recerca formativa sobre els impactes i les estratègies d’afrontament que van presentar estudiants universitaris en la pandèmia i l’aïllament per la COVID-19, es pretén descriure i analitzar l’experiència metodològica sense aprofundir en els resultats de la recerca. Primer es descriu l’entrada a camp, la recollida d’informació, l’anàlisi de dades i, posteriorment, es reflexiona al voltant del rol que van complir els investigadors i els desafiaments i oportunitats trobats en el procés.

    En aquest cas, els estudiants de l’assignatura de Disseny Etnogràfic es van posicionar com a investigadors i, al mateix temps, van experimentar una comprensió directa de les vivències viscudes pels qui van participar, pel fet que també són estudiants de Treball Social. Tot això va aportar al procés de formació en recerca, perquè els va permetre situar-se en dos llocs fonamentals en tot procés de recerca: com a participants i com a investigadors.

    Entre els desafiaments principals es va trobar que la mediació tecnològica desdibuixa la interacció i dificulta percebre tot allò no verbal. A més, va haver-hi poca privacitat a casa per als qui van ser entrevistats i van participar en els grups focals. Entre les oportunitats es va identificar que la recerca en línia escurça distàncies, implica menys recursos i que les tecnologies disponibles són molt variades.

    This paper seeks to analyse and describe the formative research process carried out on the context of the academic subject “Ethnographic Design”. It involved important challenges and opportunities since it was unfeasible to conduct face-to-face fieldwork on account of the COVID-19 pandemic; therefore, the work was performed online.

    Based on formative research on the coping strategies and the impacts felt by university students during the lockdown imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this paper aims to describe and analyse the aforementioned methodological experience without examining the research findings in any more depth. Firstly, field introduction, compilation of information and data analysis are described. Subsequently, the role of the researchers and the challenges and opportunities encountered during the process are also addressed.

    In this case, the students on the academic subject “Ethnographic Design” established themselves as researchers and, at the same time, felt first-hand the experiences of those who took part due to the fact that they are also students of social work. This all contributed to the formative research process, since it enabled them to place themselves in two fundamental perspectives in any research process; namely, those of the participant and the researcher.

    Among the main challenges, mediation of technology was determined as obscuring interaction and hindering perception of non-verbal communication. In addition, absence of privacy at home was experienced by the participants who were interviewed/took part in focus groups. Nevertheless, online research posed a number of key opportunities, including overcoming the distance barrier, reducing costs and benefitting from a highly varied selection of technological tools.
