La Huerta de Murcia cuenta con una amplia red de acequias que, desde siglos atrás, han permitido generar grandes superficies de cultivo por todo el valle del Segura a su paso por el municipio de Murcia.
Esta red hidráulica fue imprescindible durante el periodo en que el cultivo constituía la principal fuente económica de gran parte de la población. Durante este periodo, la red de riego, el tejido agrícola y, en consecuencia, el propio paisaje, se transformaron en repetidas ocasiones para adaptarse a las diferentes situaciones técnicas, sociales y económicas. Los caminos del agua tienen su origen en la Cuenca Hidrográfica del Segura; el estudio y análisis de sus ríos principales y secundarios nos revela el alcance e importancia que tiene la red de acequias mayores, menores y brazales para la huerta de Murcia como último vehículo de transporte del agua hasta su lugar de consumo. Esta red de acequias ha sufrido grandes transformaciones en las últimas décadas, cambiando el paisaje, alterando su ecosistema y olvidando nuestras tradiciones, destruyendo tras de sí una importante riqueza patrimonial que ya nunca volverá a existir

The Huerta de Murcia has a wide network of ditches that, for centuries, have made it possible to generate large areas of cultivation throughout the Segura valley as it passes through the municipality of Murcia. This hydraulic network was essential during the period in which cultivation was the main economic source for a large part of the population. During this period, the irrigation network, the agricultural fabric and, consequently, the landscape itself, were repeatedly transformed to adapt to different technical, social and economic situations. The water paths have their origin in the Segura Hydrographic Basin, the study and analysis of its main and secondary rivers reveals the scope and importance of the network of major, minor and brazal ditches for the Murcia orchard as the last vehicle of transportation of water to its place of consumption. This network of ditches has undergone major transformations in recent decades, transforming the landscape, altering its ecosystem, forgetting our traditions, destroying behind it an important wealth of heritage that will never exist again.
